Snow White and Rose Red
The Brothers Grimm fairy tale of Snow White and Rose Red is the launching
point for this adult-only version of the classic fairy tale about two lovely
sisters who rescue a black bear, providing a warm hearth during a bitterly
cold winter. Once the last of the snows have melted, Black Bear leaves the
cottage, warning the girls to avoid the dwarves, for they are dangerous
creatures who rob and steal. One day the sisters come across a creature
whose long beard has become trapped in a fissure in a log. When they draw
closer, they realize that it is a dwarf. Snow White uses a pair of scissors
to cut the beard, saving the dwarf's life. Instead of being grateful, he
berates the sisters, then grabs up a clunky bag of stones and runs away.
Snow White is trying to get Hans Christian Anderson to marry her, but his
father has some peculiar idea that Snow White is of inferior birth and
therefore beneath his son. Besides, weren't the girls busy servicing a bear
during the cold winter months?
Rose Red is having her own suitor troubles. She has fallen in love with a
young solider named Tarquin, but before Tarquin can ask her to marry him, he
is called away to war.
Snow White is finally married off to a man of noble birth, but Paul Robeson
has his own dark secrets. He has buried all three of his past wives and Snow
White, who is about to become wife number four, wonders if Paul is a
reincarnation of Bluebeard.
